If you want take a look at KDE 4.2 Beta you only need to do at Terminal:

$ gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Add this repository:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/project-neon/ubuntu intrepid main

Then save and exit, and at Terminal do:

$ sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install kde-nightly

This will complete the installation now you need to logout and select KDE session.
