Special thanks to Brazilian Translation Team

Once again I have to say that the Brazilian Ubuntu translations team never stops, always translating, reviewing and always engaged and making progress. To give you an idea, Ubuntu 10.04 was released with less than 10% items to be translated; Ubuntu 10.10 had less than 9.17% and now, Ubuntu 11.04 has been released with only 8.86% items left to be translated (these being mostly developers applications, which is always hard to find knowledeable translators to help)!
Compared to the other teams, we’re currently in third place overall, as shown by Rosetta:
All there is left to translate are 44 applications, as can be seen in the wiki page for Natty:
Wiki with applications to be translated
The best past is that the graphical interface is completely translated, as shown by the statistics below:
Brazil in third place overall
As I already said before, this team never stops: we still have several projects to be translated or reviewed, and everyone is invited to help us. Just take a look at our “first steps” documentation and join our team. As we update our wiki with all the applications that need to be translated, whoever wants to help us out translating or reviewing them can step up to the plate and add your name.
I’d like to thank everyone from the upstream teams who helped us make what Ubuntu is today. There are several projects I’d like to thank, but specially I’d like to take a moment and thank those whom I have worked closely for the last couple of years; the guys and girls from GNOME, KDE, XFCE, and LXDE who are doing a terrific job!
Finally, I’d like to thank all translators, specially the two members of our team who have been helping for quite some time: Ursinha and Tiago Hillebrandt. A special thank you to Og Maciel for helping me translate this post from my original written in Brazilian Portuguese.

Ubuntu Global Jam in Rio de Janeiro

Hi, guys!

I’m here to share with you my impressions about the last Ubuntu Global Jam in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
As any open source event, it was an incredibly opportunity to meet people that deal with the same kind of problems each day; tunning the machine to do what you want.
There I met Rodrigo and Oscar (from left to right in the above picture) and we tried to help the Ubuntu software with some translations and packaging.
There I learned how to create a debian package and packaged an old project to install gedit plugins.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian Robotics Olyimpiad was running! Children with their LEGO Mindstorms bots were serious competitors =)
And more!! An Arduino group was there too! The ArduInRio community.
It was a wonderful day of technology.
Thanks everyone!

Contribute to Ubuntu in your own language

You can easily help your local team by translating Ubuntu. Let’s go through the steps to do this.

1. You need a Launchpad account. To do this you can go to https://launchpad.net/ and use the link on the top right hand side to
sign up.

2. Depending on the translation team, you might be asked to sign the [Ubuntu Code of Conduct https://launchpad.net/codeofconduct/1.1] (CoC). You will need to have a PGP key for this

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/QuickStartGuide

3. You then need to choose your language team in which to participate. You can see all of them [ https://translations.launchpad.net/+groups/ubuntu-translators ] and click on your team to get more information on how to join them.

4. Then you can ask them how to help in the translation of your language

You always can see more in official wiki:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/
Come on, help, participate and enjoy!
